Nowadays, I use me_cleaner when I can and just outright nuke ME no need to update it after that, and I close a huge security hole :) I'd recommend doing this over trying to update ME, but this isn't easy on most modern computers due to software blocks on BIOS flashing. Some people have argued that installing firmware for something as integrated as ME from a random website is horrible advice, but the firmware is signed and legitimate you'd think Intel would let you casually flash some tampered firmware? To do this, you need to figure out what ME firmware you need (WinRAID has a large post detailing this), grab the firmware tools that match the ME version, and use the tool to flash it (all of that is explained in that post). Last I checked, they had flash tools for Linux and UEFI, which wouldn't require Windows at all. I used to go to Win-RAID's website and grab the latest ME and a copy of Intel's ME flash tool from there. However, if you're familiar with how to update it and it isn't inconvenient, may as well go for it. The installer detects the systems capabilities and installs the relevant drivers and applications. ![]() The Intel ME software components that need to be installed depend on the systems specific hardware and firmware features. Updating ME doesn't really give you any noticeable improvement, so it isn't worthwhile to do just to do it. Installs the Intel Management Engine (Intel ME) version 7.
